Other than resignations & housing market twists what might summer hold?

The 2021 Fathers Day was on Sunday, June 20th, which coincidentally was the longest day of summer — Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere). Now that summer is officially here to stay for 3 months, people are ready with their sunscreen lotions and summer outfits. But other than the pleasures of summer like paragliding in the blue skies or sunbathing on the beach what else might this summer bring?… From simple actions like handshake, elbow bump or side-hug, post vaccination meetings with people that have not come in contact in-person for a long time will have many mysteries.

Now that several places have mellowed their restrictions on masks for those who have been vaccinated, there will be a new range of opinions between those with masks-off and some still finding the need to hold on just a bit longer — especially when they are in crowded places, travelling in closed air spaces, living with someone sick or in areas where there is still a need/mandate, or by personal preferences and such.

Considering the current trend of leaving jobs its apparent that, as pandemic anxieties are reduced this feeling of exploring something new is intensified, especially in careers… The life of virtual-work without the hassle of a commute might feel attractive to some. And, due to several reasons (personal or professional), some might just not want to go back to the same employer/office they used to before pandemic. This resignations wave could provide good opportunities for entry level/ juniors, getting a boost earlier in their careers. With a combination of increased resignations + virtual-work, businesses might leave expensive big city office spaces, and increase outsourcing.

Sometimes job change can be good, but they need to do it thoughtfully and for the right reasons. Because, otherwise it might lead to losing good people and company culture that stood by their side during the tough pandemic times, and unintentionally getting into negative environment, uncooperative team & leadership, or subpar projects and growth stagnation, leading to reduced job satisfaction.

With virtual-work, babysitting money saved, commute costs gone, and funding influx… sub-urban areas are developing rapidly, the builders and construction/real-estate industry (non-commercial) is extremely occupied as we have the buyers lined up to buy homes. Numerous prequalification/preapproval letters are getting created rapidly by desperate buyers, while sellers are benefitting from the market situation.

Even though in the housing market, builders and realtors could be ecstatic, but environmentalists might start worrying…As more and more people will start moving towards the suburbs, more housing and infrastructure needs will increase suburban development. Usually when humans extend their suburbs, they end up encroaching habitats of the wildlife, by demolishing extensive woods, which are home to numerous varieties of flora and fauna.

People being cooped up too long in their homes are more than willing to get on the road to travel to new avenues. Summer break has started as the schools are off. With vaccines done, many are taking flights as well, even the high flying costs are not holding them back. So looks like the travel industry is finally getting its much needed lift.

Come August various county schools might start getting back to in-person sessions. Students and teachers will feel the change, as they will be getting together with several people in the same room after a long time. The school going experience, although will be in-person, there could still be some precautions taken by students and educators alike. Plus, an important factor to consider would be — younger than 12 year olds, who do not have a vaccine yet.

All-in-all this is an interesting summer. With several new developments happening, the lifestyle changes people will need to bring about “again”, hopefully won’t feel that challenging, as they will be using the tenacity developed through these pandemic times, and it will decide how well we all move towards creating a better habitat for us.
