The month of March is designated as the Women’s History Month

It is a month to understand, value and cherish the achievements of women. Those victories that they strived for, by going against the norms, breaking barriers and paving their way, to overcome all those odds that were brought forth just because they were women.

Equitable distribution of childcare and household duties between partners, while managing careers, was one of the several challenges women faced during the current pandemic. COVID started in the year 2019 and spread across the world in 2020. As the spread of COVID accelerated, jobs deteriorated. Sectors in which several women worked e.g. Retail, Hospitality and such, got badly affected, leading to extensive loss of jobs for women.

The future is unknown, but what is known is the history, that shows women have persevered through generations of patriarchy to make their mark, they achieved their goals through grit and resilience. In 1918–1919 there was a pandemic in the United States (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/basics/past-pandemics.html), those were extremely difficult times.

Do you know how that time period is related to when women got the right to vote in the US (19th Amendment)?

“Since 1878, a women’s suffrage amendment had been proposed each year in Congress. In 1919, the suffrage movement had finally gained enough support, and Congress, grateful for women’s help during the war, passed the Nineteenth Amendment on June 5.” — Source: https://www.loc.gov/classroom-materials/elections/right-to-vote/voting-rights-for-women/

There was a war & a pandemic, but still women of that generation were undeterred, they kept asking for their right to vote. Which is highly inspirational! Thus, although due to the pandemic the future is uncertain, but such historic incidents prove that women came out stronger through challenging times with their passion, grit and perseverance!
